It has been a long time since I have updated this page.  About a year ago my computer was struck by lightning and it has taken me this long to get the software required to update the website.

We had a pretty mild winter though there was an extended cold snap last month.  Fortunately for The Smilin’ T ranch and its boarders nothing broke.  I began having to manually haul water on the next to the last day of the cold snap as all the “liquid” water had been sucked dry and nothing but ice was left.  I did purchase a 35 gallon water tank to make my job easier the next time.

I planted oats for the second year.  We didn’t have the rain so this year’s standing has not been as productive as last years, but it has given the horses something to graze on and give them the social time they need as horses.  It also will continue to help the long term renovation of the pastures to ensure they are as weed free as possible.  These fields used to grow coastal hay.

We have a new occupant here at The Smilin’ T.  "Duchess" arrived last Sunday.  She is a 21 year old TB and is settling in nicely.  Her owner Rachel is abroad.  I’m sure Duchess will be a nice addition to our little herd.  I know she is anxiously awaiting leaving “quarantine” which will end the middle of next week.

Check back for more news, happenings and updates as we move into the Spring riding season.
